Ed Sheeran Scores Second Victory in Copyright Trial as Judge Awards Him $1.1 Million in Costs
Ed Sheeran won over $1.1 million in costs in his copyright trial. In April, Judge Zacaroli ruled that Sheeran did not plagiarize Sami Chokri’s 2015 song “Oh Why” Sheeran co-wrote “Shape of You” with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid and Steve Mac. Chokri’s legal team argued that SBTV founder Jamal Edwards and Sheeran had heard Chokri’s track and plagiarized it. Sheeran may still be fighting a copyright lawsuit over “Thinking Out Loud” and was sued in 2016 over “Photograph.” That case was settled out of court. After winning the suit, Sheeran said copyright lawsuits are too common with artists settling out of court instead of fighting it, do you agree?
